Friends — The new record is called Homage to Catalonia. It's my sixth, and it comes out in January. The next song from it arrives on 18 September. It's called "Cadaqués Cowboy," and it imagines Salvador Dalí as a spaghetti-western drifter — kind of an alien, but always playing with reality. Cadaqués is the white village up the Costa Brava where Dalí kept a house. You drive over a mountain to get there, and then the road simply stops, because there's nowhere further to go. I've been in Barcelona four years now — longer than anywhere since I left New York — and this record is mostly about that: you can't fully leave one country or fully arrive in another. Both are a work in progress. You can pre-save the single here, and it'll turn up in your library the morning it lands: Pre-saves matter more than they sound like they should. They tell Spotify that people were waiting for a song before it existed, and that first day decides how far it travels. Without a label behind it, that's most of the fight.
