Back in the spring I played a house concert up in Alella, in the hills outside Barcelona — vineyards on one side, the sea somewhere off the other. Twenty-odd people. Chairs carried out from the kitchen. No PA, no soundcheck.

Three or four songs in I stopped worrying about whether the guitar was loud enough, because the room had gone that particular kind of quiet you only get when people are actually listening. You can hear it happen. It's the reason I keep doing these.

People ask fairly often how to arrange one. Until now my answer was "write to me and we'll figure it out," which is a bad answer. So I've set up four proper ways to book one:

Solo — €300
One voice, one guitar, sometimes a banjo. An hour and a half of songs in your living room or courtyard, wherever you can fit twenty people and a chair.

Duo — €450
Two of us — guitar and a second voice, with the harmonies the records only hint at. About ninety minutes, for thirty people.

Trio — €600
Guitar, upright bass, and a third voice. Enough weight to fill a barn or a terrace, still quiet enough for a room where people want to hear the words.

Full Band — €800
The whole outfit, at full volume. A courtyard, a wedding, a harvest party, anywhere with room to dance.

Each of those is a 50% deposit that holds the date once we've agreed on one — the balance is due the day of the show. Travel and lodging are quoted separately, and I'll send you that number before anything is confirmed. If I'm already booked or the date doesn't work, the deposit comes straight back, no questions.

I'm based in Barcelona, so Catalunya and the rest of Spain are easy. Further afield is very doable, it just changes the travel line.
